New Beginners’ Course

We will be starting a new beginners course at Durrington High School on Sunday 23rd November 2014 at 10am. If you are interested in trying fencing for the first time, then this is the course for you.

You don’t need to own any special clothing or equipment to complete the course – just come along in comfortable sports-wear.

Our coaches will teach you about the following:

  • Warming up
  • Footwork
  • En Garde – and the correct way to stand and move
  • Protective clothing
  • The three weapons – foil, épée and sabre. We will specialise in épée .
  • Basic techniques in attack and defence
  • Scoring

Once you have completed the course you will be able to fence on the electric pistes with other members of the club.

Fencing keeps you fit and is so totally different from any other sport, it’s a must for those who have never tried it. A word of warning though – once you try fencing, you’ll be hooked!

      Hello Andrew,
This will be an 8-week course which will teach you the basics of fencing épée to a standard sufficient to allow you to fence electrically. This means that by the end of the course you will be able to don the required protective kit (provided) and know how to plug yourself in and score your fights using the electric boxes we have at the club.

For this course we are likely to be trying the Sports hall at Durrington High School for the first time. Please keep an eye on our home page for the latest information.

The cost of the course is £48 for adults and £40 for juniors (under 14) and we will meet every Sunday (apart from Half-term week) – and the course runs until 15th December.

Please let me know if you would like any more information.

      Best wishes, JP, Club Secretary.

  2. Practicing such sport gives the well focused mind to choose whether to defend or attack whenever in such kind of situations.

Hi Andrew, We start at 10am and do a good long warm-up followed by the lesson which should take up to around 11:15 – 11:30am. There will be piste fighting that you can stay and watch if you like and many hang around and chat. We have to be out of the hall by midday. Best wishes, JP

    An amazing attendance this morning.
Thank you to everyone who joined us for the first time. Since starting the club in March 2013, we have never had so many local people wanting to learn how to fence. I hope everyone enjoyed themselves and I’m looking forward to next week.
